Author Silver Ravenwolf came out with a book shortly after Sabrina the Teenage Witch called, "Teen Witch." She took the concept of teen witches, and brought it to a more intense, Wicca direction. Melissa Joan Hart put her childhood village of Sayville into Sabrina, and Ravenwolf took the concept further with the "Witches' Chillers" book series about a 16 year old teenage witch with a black cat, like Sabrina. Salem is a name in the book. She also uses magic to help people, and is about outcast high school kids. Titles of the series include "Witches' Night of Fear." The described village is also much like Sayville: It is a small northeastern village with Victorian houses and woods. It is located what state? "small-town New York." Since the character's father is a New York City Cop, the village is even a suburb of New York City like Sayville. The high school even has a "Lord-Of-The-Flies viciousness."

The colors of the school that the teenage witch in the Silver Ravenwolf books goes to is similar to Sayville's! |

Cedar Shore, Sayville The part of the Sayville with the bulk of the old, creepy Victorian homes are in the section of Sayville is called "Cedar Shore." This area is called Cedar Shore because it was the Cedarshore Estate. Click for pictures of the Cedar Shore Neighborhood at the Sayville Library site. The teen witch lives in Cedar Crest. |
Cedars grow in swampy conditions, as shown in the above picture. |
Swamp Cedar (Chamaecyparis thyoides) The type of Cedar that is native to Sayville is called the "Swamp Cedar." According to the U.S. Forest Service, "cedar is usually dominant in rich swamps." |
Like Serena Martin of Sayville, the teen witch's mother figure does Santeria. The village is described as having a river, bridges, a mall, an old cemetery, a main street, a diner, and is a bedroom community of New York City. In addition, the village is in downstate NY, not upstate. Like in Sabrina, the cheerleaders are very nasty and are the enemy. In the book "Witches Night Out" on pages 70 and 105 of witches' night out, it says the cheerleaders tried to set the teenage witch on fire! On page 183, the teenage witch said she wanted to run down the cheerleaders with her car to kill them. Only one teenage witch in the world ever killed a beautiful cheerleader, and that was in SAYVILLE NY!!! Serena Martin killed one in 1998 in a demonic ceremony. She was even a classmate of Melissa Joan Hart at her school, which has the demonic lightning bolt as its symbol. There is even a school that teaches kids witchcraft located at in the village.
Located in Sayville is a high priest of the Black Forest Clan Coven of the Malachite Lion, which is headed by Silver RavenWolf herself!
Sounds a lot like Melissa Joan Hart's hometown of Sayville to me!
Of course, the author had many influences. What people say is that Sayville was one of many influences on her. There are indications the books were influenced by Sabrina, and the only teenage witch to kill a cheerleader was in Sayville.

"Salem Village" No one is really sure exactly why Sayville
is called Sayville. One
theory is "Sayville"
is a contraction of "Salem Village," the original name of Salem,
Massachusetts. The original
settlers came to Long Island from Salem. Salem = Say ; Village = Ville ; = Sayville Old houses in Sayville. Looks like Salem, MA. |

This movie, made in 1999, is a copy of Sabrina. People that live in Sayville say that the show is even more like Sayville than Sabrina. Check the colors. The blonde teenage witch in the movie looks just like Melissa Joan Hart, her enemy is the head cheerleader, they are the outcasts, there is a kid like Harvey, she is the new kid in the school, old Victorian houses, it is set in a small New England town called "Pilgrimtown" with a history of witches, etc. There is a school sporting event. One team has the Sayville colors, the other is Amityville's! Compare the picture to Serena.

Paul Feig played Mr. Poole and was a "Sayville Teacher" in Melissa Joan Hart's Sabina the Teenage Witch, which was controlled by the Harts. He wanted the show to be more serious, and disagreed with the direction the show took. For a year he heard the Harts constantly talking about Sayville this and Sayville that, and knew about the village schools intimately. After the Harts
got rid of him, he started a show called Freaks and Geeks. It had the same theme as Sabrina and was about a High School with a few nice, highly intelligent kids that fought against the rotten kids that were dummies. Like Melissa Joan Hart, he put some of the influences from his childhood into the show. So the show was a combination of the Sayville Schools, and his school in Michigan. The show Freaks and Geeks was basically a spin-off of Sabrina.
